A personal favourite of mine (their newsletter is one of the most exciting things to arrive in my inbox), the Leslieville Farmers’ Marketis one of the city’s youngest, just in its third year. Held at Jonathan Ashbridge Park near the beach(es), it offers a terrific mixture of everything from fresh vegetables, meat, and fish, to programming for kids, live music, and mouth-watering mini meals.
Mr. Spinner’s breakfast sandwich – a bacon and avocado sandwich cooked in a waffle iron topped with a fried egg, and Hooked’s grilled fish taco with slaw and cilantro served as a perfect start to the day.
A feast for the eyes as much as the tastebuds – mounds of croissants from Le Matin, Earth & City’s smoothies, and lovely vegetables from Highmark Farms. The great folks at Highmark Farms had duck eggs, which were impossible to pass up, and were frankly luxurious. May become a duck egg convert…
Could you even ask for a more perfect scene?
It was such a lovely day, it made perfect sense to wander a little further west to the Tommy Thompson Park on Leslie Spit, passing by gardeners tending their vegetables the allotment gardens along the way. Everyone enjoying the weather and good, local food? Simply wonderful.
